The Best Shotguns in Fortnite

The Best Shotguns in Fortnite

Here are the best shotguns you can pick up in Fortnite!

Shotguns in Fortnite (unlike in other shooters) are actually quite useful. But which are the best shotguns in Fortnite? We’ve put together a rundown of the best shotguns in Fortnite to help answer that question. Enjoy!

Pump Shotgun

Let’s start with the best of the best. The Pump Shotgun is the best shotgun in the game. There’s no better feeling than one pumping your foes, it’s as simple as that.

Pump Shotgun Fortnite

New players to Fortnite Battle Royale may not be familiar with the Pump Shotgun’s monstrous stats. So, here we are:

  • Damage Per Second – 81.2
  • Damage – 116
  • Headshot Multiplier – 1.75x
  • Fire Rate – 0.7
  • Magazine Size – 5
  • Reload Time – 3.7s

You’ll see how these compare with other shotguns as we go through and compare. Still,  let’s just say upfront, with stats like that, there is no other shotgun in Fortnite Battle Royale that can compete for the best weapon in the shotgun class.

Combat Shotgun

The Combat Shotgun shoots a pellet spray like most shoguns. However, the pellet spread on this weapon is far tighter than competing Fortnite weapons like the Pump Shotgun.

Combat Shotgun Fortnite

The tighter pellet spread theoretically allows for the Combat Shotgun to compete with Fortnite weapons like assault rifles. Unfortunately, the Combat Shotgun suffers from a low damage, just check out these stats:

  • Damage Per Second – 107.1
  • Damage – 63
  • Headshot Multiplier – 1.5x
  • Fire Rate – 1.7
  • Magazine Size – 8
  • Reload Time – 4.7s

The Combat Shotgun can compete with some weapons at close range, but will generally be outgunned against other shotguns or submachine guns. So yeah, it’s pretty lame.

Charge Shotgun

The Charge Shotgun might be my favorite shotgun in Fortnite, actually. This one has the ability to charge up a shot, and the longer the shot is charged, the more damage it can output. Simple, right?

Charge Shotgun Fortnite

With a fully charged shot, this shotgun can pack massive damage. The Charge Shotgun is the only other shotgun than the Pump Shotgun that can deal 200+ damage.

  • Damage Per Second – 86 - 86.7
  • Damage – 102
  • Headshot Multiplier – 1.5x
  • Fire Rate – 0.85
  • Magazine Size – 5
  • Reload Time – 3.9s

Fun weapon, but yeah, it's not really that good.

Tactical Shotgun

Next up, something slightly better – The Tactical Shotgun. It has decent close range damage output, plus a large magazine, which makes the Tactical Shotgun a solid choice for any player's inventory.

Tactical Shotgun Fortnite

Here are the Tactical shotguns numbers on paper:

  • Damage Per Second – 132
  • Damage – 88
  • Headshot Multiplier – 1.5x
  • Fire Rate – 1.5
  • Magazine Size – 8
  • Reload Time – 5.13s

As you can see, speed is the Tactical Shotgun’s strength, so you should be dominating the truly close counter engagements that you get into.

Lever Action Shotgun

Okay, let’s go with another recent shotgun – the Lever Action that was added on Chapter 2 Season 5.

Lever Action Shotgun

Now, this is a half-decent shotgun, but it suffers from the same problem many slow firing shotguns do in Fortnite. They just don’t compete with the Pump Shotgun. Check out the stats, and you’ll see for yourself:

  • Damage Per Second – 108.6
  • Damage – 114.3
  • Headshot Multiplier – 1.45x
  • Fire Rate – 0.95
  • Magazine Size – 6
  • Reload Time – 5.4s

This isn’t to say the Lever Action is useless. It's more A or B-tier than S-tier, which we reserve for the pump.

Auto Shotgun

The Auto Shotgun came into Fortnite during Chapter 3 Season 1 and thanks to its speed, it's basically the Chapter 3 equivalent of the Tactical Shotgun.

Auto Shotgun Fortnite

Here are the stats of this shotgun:

  • Damage Per Second – 138.6
  • Damage – 92.4
  • Headshot Multiplier – 1.5x
  • Fire Rate – 1.5
  • Magazine Size – 8
  • Reload Time – 5.13s

You can see the Auto Shotgun acts similarly to the Tactical Shotgun, and even beats it out in a few categories. So, this is a strong weapon in this class, right up there near the top.

Double Barrel Shotgun

This next one isn’t, though. It’s super fun, but it's massively hampered by having only 2 shots before a reload. You guessed it, we’re talking about the Double Barrel.

Double Barrel Shotgun Fortnite

Here are the Double Barrel’s stats:

  • Damage Per Second – 228
  • Damage – 120
  • Headshot Multiplier – 1.25x
  • Fire Rate – 1.9
  • Magazine Size – 2
  • Reload Time – 2.7s

Even if you aren’t going to use this weapon regularly, you should take it for a spin occasionally because it's just so damn satisfying

Striker Pump Shotgun

And finally, we have the Striker pump shotgun. The Striker Pump is the third shotgun to be introduced in Fortnite Chapter 3, and it performs similarly to the Pump Shotgun, but does not pack the same damage output.

Striker Pump Shotgun

The Striker Pump Shotgun seems good at a first glance, but after comparing stats to the Pump Shotgun the shortcomings are more obvious. Let’s go through and explain:

  • Damage Per Second – 68.64
  • Damage – 105.6
  • Headshot Multiplier – 1.65x
  • Fire Rate – 0.65
  • Magazine Size – 5
  • Reload Time – 4.5s

The Striker Pump is beat out in almost every category by the Pump Shotgun. However, it is still a viable option, so don’t just drop it if you see it.

Now that you know which shotguns are the best to include in your inventory, I’m sure you’ll be off to get your Victory Royales!
